Spirit mediums, séances and trances swept the world in the 1850s during the birth of the Spiritualism phenomenon. In Victoria, the movement quickly drew many converts, including a future prime minister. Over the following decades, Spiritualism captured Victoria’s imagination with its spectacular claims and even more spectacular events.
